Announcing the 1st Annual School Art Contest at MusicFEST 2020

The First Annual Willow Waterhole School Art Contest will be held as a concurrent event to the Willow Waterhole MusicFEST 2020. The Art Contest is open to all students attending schools in Southwest Houston, and students will compete in 3 categories: Elementary School(Pre-K to 5th Grade), Middle School (6th Grade to 8th Grade), High School (9th Grade to 12th Grade). The goal of the annual contest is to heighten awareness of Willow Waterhole Greenway and the Conservancy in the surrounding community, and to provide opportunities to recognize students in nearby schools, fostering in them an appreciation for the visual arts.

The theme for the first edition of the contest will be "Birds of Willow Waterhole" and contestants will be asked to find inspiration in the many examples of avian wildlife that call the area home or use it as a resting place during seasonal transits. Students are encouraged to draw inspiratin from the many excellent photos provided by Ben Hulsey in his online gallery Willow Waterhole Birds. Participants are asked to create their work in any 2D media they prefer, with a maximum size of 8 1/2" x 11". Entries can either be mailed to the mailing address indicated below or dropped off at Westbury High School:

The deadline to enter the contest is March 27, 2020 by 10:00 PM. The art work entries will be on display at the MusicFEST grounds on April 4-5. Winners will be announced Saturday, April 4th at the festival, and must be present to receive prize. A silent auction of some of the winning pieces will be held on Sunday, April 5th. Enrollment in the ocntest requires a $5.00 fee for Elementary School participants, and a $10.00 for Middle School and High School participants. Entry fee assistance is available for students who may require it.
