Crocro y su Tumbaká is a Houston-based band founded by Jorge Crocro Orta in 2010. An internationally renowned percussionist with South American roots, “Croco” set out to interpret the tropical musical styles of the 1970s, 80s, and 90s. The band, whose name Tumbaká comes from a West Indian African word suggesting percussion instruments and conga rhythms, today plays music infused with Latin-jazz and Cuban guaracha, son, and charanga.

Jorge is a Latin percussion teacher, band director, producer, collaborator, recording artist, musical director of Salsa y Salud, the first Salsa Festival in Houston, and performing artist at The Hobby Center for the Performing Arts, Museum of Fine Arts, and Miller Outdoor Theatre. He also performed with the Walt Disney World Tropical Band at Animal Kingdom, and in 2014 was honored by the City of Houston with a Proclamation for “using an interactive performance as a vehicle to positively impact the community.” MusicFEST looks forward to the band’s encore performance!
